Dan is passionate about homeownership opportunities for all. To that end, he worked in conjunction with the South Carolina Association of REALTORS and the South Carolina General Assembly and Governor to establish the “Home Ownership: The American Dream” license plate. The specialty tag generates income that is used to support affordable and workforce housing opportunities across South Carolina. Partly because of his commitments to family and community, Dan was named as one of the Greenville Magazine’s “Best and Brightest: 35 and Under” in 2007.
First elected to the State House in 2008, Dan has become known as a leader for common sense solutions and a champion for economic development and job creation. In his first term, Dan helped establish and was elected Chairman of the Upstate Caucus. The Caucus exists to facilitate communication and collaboration among elected officials and community leaders within the 10-county Upstate region. Dan also served as the Vice-Chairman of the Freshman Caucus. Dan is one of the few non-lawyers to serve on the Judiciary Committee in the House and is a Assistant Chief Whip for the Republican Caucus. Dan was one of a handful of Legislators to be named a “Taxpayer Hero” in 2011 by the SC Club for Growth and a Sword & Mace Award winner two years in a row from SC BIPEC. Additionally, Dan received an “A” rating and endorsement by the National Rifle Association and the South Carolina Citizens for Life. Most recently, Dan was awarded the 2012 Business Advocated Award by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce for his pro-business voting record.
